Collette Vacations welcomes your family to the Canadian Rockies for a journey through one of the world’s most exciting regions. Keep your cameras handy as you discover this land by cruise, bike, gondola and on foot. Take time to explore Banff, taste the flavors of this region, and be dazzled by the scenery and wildlife.

Day 2: Banff - Yoho National Park - Banff
Take a day trip to Yoho National Park, named by the Cree (using their expression for “awe”). See the Spiral Tunnels cut through the mountains and learn about the train system in Canada. Next, visit Fields, a cozy town known for its charm. Later, travel along Kicking Horse River and enjoy a visit to the Natural Bridge to learn how this amazing limestone rock formation was created. Continue your journey along the river and spend some time exploring spectacular Emerald Lake, named for the vibrant green color of its water. Become a true Canadian this evening as you join in a musical tribute to Canada which is hosted by a singing Mountie, lumberjack and other native characters serving up a laid back, family-style meal in a log cabin atmosphere. (B,D)

Day 3: Banff
This morning board the “Lady of the Spirits” and cruise along Lake Winnewanka. The lake received its name from the Stoney natives and means “the lake of the water spirits.” While on board you’ll learn from a local expert about the rich history of the area and the Stoney native legends. After the cruise, meet a local guide who will take you on an interpretive hike through Stewart Canyon. This is one of Banff’s best kept secrets and is a hidden treasure in a region best viewed on foot. Following this exploration, enjoy a bike* ride with the beautiful backdrop of the national park. Stop in Bankhead, an old mining town. Take some time to explore and learn about the importance of the coal mine to the development of the Canadian Rockies and the railway services in the region. Continue your bike ride back to the town of Banff. (B)

Day 4: Banff - Icefields Parkway - Banff
Start your day on a gondola ride to the summit of Sulphur Mountain. Upon arrival enjoy breakfast with views of the valley and the mountain ranges. The Icefields Parkway awaits! Marvel at the waterfalls, rushing rivers and snow-peaked mountains that surround you as you enter the Rockies. While aboard the awesome all-terrain Ice Explorer you will journey onto the Athabasca Glacier – which is over 1,000 feet thick, over 400 years old, and the largest accumulation of ice south of the Arctic Circle! At the top of the glacier, you can taste pure glacier water and take in the surroundings – a perfect backdrop for a family photo. Return to Banff where this evening the choice is yours! On Diner’s Choice … a Collette Exclusive, your dinner is included – and you’ll choose the perfect spot from a “menu” of Banff’s great restaurants. (B,D)

Day 5: Banff - Lake Louise - Mt. Whitehorn - Banff
This morning enjoy learning about the fascinating fossils of the region, known as Ammonite. A local expert shows you how gems are created from fossils and how they were discovered in this area. Lake Louise will be your next stop. Enjoy free time at this turquoise blue lake for photos and exploring. Have lunch at the foot of Mt. Whitehorn before rising into the Rockies on a gondola that whisks you to the top of the mountain. At Mt. Whitehorn’s peak, visit the bear interpretive centre and learn more about the grizzlies that inhabit the area.(B,L)
