Itinerary
Day 1 - Depart USABoard your overnight flight (not included). Day 2 to Day 3 - Budapest, the Queen of the Danube Welcome to Hungary, unique in Europe for its language and culture! Transfers to your hotel depart from Budapest Ferihegy International Airport at 10:00, 13:00, 15:30. For those arriving into Vienna Airport, your transfer departs at 13.00 to go to the hotel in Budapest. Later, join your Tour Director for a Welcome reception, drinks and a light meal. After a restful night’s sleep, join a local expert for a drive up to Gellert Hill. Gaze out over the Danube dividing Buda from Pest - the two sides linked by the Chain and Elizabeth Bridges. Then ascend Buda’s Castle District to visit Matthias Church. Admire the immense facades of the Parliament building from the Fisherman’s Bastion. Over in Pest, drive down Andrassy Boulevard and visit Heroes’ Square. The afternoon is yours to relax or hit the shops of bustling Váci utca. (Welcome Reception / Buffet Breakfast) Day 4 to Day 5 - Ups and Downs in Zagreb's Twin Towns Drive alongside tranquil Lake Balaton and hear about the excellent wines produced along the shores. Continue on to the Croatian border and the capital of Zagreb. A guided tour takes you through the squares of the lower town to the cathedral. Then walk through the medieval Upper Town to see the Stone Gate, St Mark’s Church and Lotršcak Tower. This evening, you are invited to choose from a selection of restaurants for your dining pleasure. The next day is all yours to explore. The Ilica is the hub of Zagreb’s shopping scene, or perhaps take an excursion to the Zagorje region to learn about local culture and tradition? (Buffet Breakfast / Dine Around / Buffet Breakfast) Day 6 - Split, divided by a Roman Palace Head for the historic port of Split on the sun drenched Adriatic Riviera. 1700 years ago the Roman Emperor Diocletian built his palace here and a local expert leads you through the labyrinth of streets and historical buildings within that same palace. See St. Duje’s, , the Temple of Jupiter and the Golden Gate. Venture underground into the rooms thought to have housed his slaves. (Buffet Breakfast) Day 7 - On the Trail of Marco Polo in Korcula Later drive along the coast for a short ferry crossing to the island of Korcula. Before dinner a guided walking tour takes you to the Cathedral, the town museum and the Bishop’s Palace. The locals also claim Marco Polo was born here and you also see his ruined house next. (Buffet Breakfast / Dinner) Day 8 to Day 10 - Dubrovnik, Pearl of the Adriatic Cross over to the beautiful southern slopes of the Peljesac peninsula. Stop amid the age-old vines to see how wine is produced and enjoy a taste. Continue to the walled town of Dubrovnik - ‘paradise on earth’ according to George Bernard Shaw! During your three night stay, join a local expert to explore the stone paved streets inside the 16th century bastions of the old town. See Onofrio’s fountain and the Rector’s Palace, as well as the Franciscan and Dominican monasteries. For the remainder of your stay, you are at leisure in this ‘pearl of the Adriatic’. Relax by the pool, shop in the markets or stroll with friends along the ancient city walls. As the sun sets, maybe take a relaxing cruise on the harbour and don’t miss the opportunity of dinner in a traditional ‘konoba’. (Buffet Breakfast / Dinner / Buffet Breakfast / Buffet Breakfast) Day 11 - Trogir and Pristine Plitvice Enjoy the scenery of the Dalmatian coast - sparkling deep blue seas, studded with rocky islands. Visit Trogir, founded by the Greeks in 400BC. Admire the cathedral and Renaissance Cipiko Palace before continuing to the Plitvice region. (Buffet Breakfast / Dinner) Day 12 to Day 13 - Luscious Lakes to Lovable Ljubljana Get ready for one of Europe’s natural wonders, Plitvice National Park; a scenic wonderland of 16 interconnecting lakes, flanked by thundering waterfalls and primeval forest. This afternoon drive through the unique region of Lika, crossing into Slovenia and reaching the “beloved” city of Ljubljana. In the morning, a local expert reveals the Baroque elegance of the Slovenian capital. The imposing medieval castle stands as ancient guardian, the City Hall and Cathedral of St Nicholas testify to its historical importance, while the Triple Bridge spans the river adorned with cafés and restaurants. This afternoon is at leisure to shop or for optional excursions. (Buffet Breakfast / Dinner / Buffet Breakfast) Day 14 to Day 15 - Stately Vienna and the Habsburgs It’s only a short drive across the Austrian border to the forested mountains of Styria and to the stately capital of Vienna. The next morning join a local expert for a private tour of Maria Theresa’s Schönbrunn Palace and formal gardens. Then get your cameras ready for a drive around the famous ring road. This grand boulevard, built along the lines of the old city walls, show-cases many of the capital’s architectural masterpieces, including the Opera House, magnificent Hofburg Imperial Residence and Parliament building. After some time at leisure, join us this evening for a wonderful concert of Viennese Classical music. Your gala end-of-tour Celebration Dinner with wine features some of Austria’s most highly acclaimed soloists performing famous works by Strauss and Mozart. (Buffet Breakfast / Buffet Breakfast / Celebration Dinner) Day 16 - Return to USA Your departure transfer arrives at Vienna Airport at 08:00 and continues back to Budapest Airport arriving at 12.00 noon.
