Day 2 to Day 4 - St Peter Port, Guernsey Countryside and the Island of Sark
Welcome to the Channel Islands, renowned for their beaches, seafood, warmer weather and a slower lifestyle! On arrival at Guernsey Airport, private transfers have been arranged to take you through the patchwork of green fields to St. Peter Port, which cascades down on a series of terraces to the picturesque quayside below. Your stylish hotel overlooks a quiet park, St. Peter Port harbour, and the neighbouring Channel Islands. This evening, join your Tour Director for a Welcome Reception, drinks and a light informal meal, which includes a taste and special cooking class on how to make Guernsey’s famous Potato Peel Pie. In the morning, a guided tour of St. Peter Port shows off the capital’s varied tapestry of architectural styles. From the bustling harbour, gaze across to Castle Cornet, dating back to the 13C, Continue to the island’s south and west to see the fortifications from the Napoleonic wars and German occupation of WWII. Visit the “Little Chapel” the curious work of Brother Deodat, decorated with shells and broken pottery. This afternoon is at leisure. Perhaps take time to explore the boutiques of the capital’s ‘Arcade’ lanes. Wake up the next morning refreshed and ready for the included excursion to the island of Sark. The ferry whisks you over to the smallest of the four main Channel Islands. On arrival, take a ride by horse and cart on this traffic-free idyll. Entrance is included to the beautiful gardens of La Seigneurie. Set within the grounds of a 17th century manor, the garden is considered one of the finest in the British Isles. Enjoy the scenery and unique, peaceful atmosphere before returning to St. Peter Port. Tonight you might like to dine in style at one of the restaurants down by the harbour or enjoy more traditional fayre and a pint with the locals in a cosy pub. Day 5 to Day 8 - St Helier, Jersey Countryside
A short crossing of just one hour brings you to the island of Jersey, the largest of the Channel Isles and thick with flowers during the spring and summer. Your Tour Director shows you around the capital of St. Helier, ending up at the statue in Liberation Square, in front of your hotel. Once checked-in you are at leisure to cross the road to the yacht marina or browse the bustling shops and cafés. During your relaxing stay on the island a visit is made to the Jersey War Tunnels housing a moving exhibit recalling every day life for the Channel Islanders during the five years of German occupation. You also get a great opportunity to photograph the iconic Corbiere Lighthouse. Otherwise, just relax in the cafés and pubs of the shady Royal Square or enjoy the other delights of the island. Suggestions include the award-winning Jersey Museum, the Maritime Museum, Elizabeth Castle in St. Aubin’s Bay, the Durrell Wildlife Conservation Trust and a full traditional Jersey afternoon tea? Jersey lies just 14 miles off the French Coast so if the weather permits, there is also the option of an excursion by ferry to the French port of St. Malo with its medieval fortifications, restaurant-lined squares and narrow, cobbled streets. On your last night, before the Bergerac accordion theme tune plays and the final credits roll, join your fellow guests for a grande finalé celebratory evening. Enjoy wine and a delectable dinner of the finest local produce at a prized local restaurant. Bon Appétit! Day 9 - Return to USA
Your tour draws to a close after breakfast. Take a private transfer to the airport for your home bound flight, or if your holiday time permits, perhaps connect with a number of other exciting Insight Vacations in London or Paris. (Full Breakfast)
