Days 3-7 Lhasa
Colourful, historic and with a deeply fascinating culture, the holy city of Lhasa is situated in a small valley high on the Tibetan Plateau.

Day 8 Gyantse
Gyantse is a small agricultural town set in the Nyang-chu Valley, famed for its wool carpets and the Pelkhor Chode Temple complex.

Day 9 Shigatse
Sitting at the confluence of two rivers, Shigatse is a bustling, dusty city home to some fantastic monasteries, fortresses and palaces.

Day 10 Sakya
Sakya, located in a valley off the Friendship Highway, is a small town with unique architecture and a beautiful monastery.

Day 11 Everest National Park
As one of the world's big challenges, Mount Everest evokes visions of beauty, danger, awe and triumph. Standing close to this mountain is certain to leave you breathless.

Day 12 Nyalam
Get a feel for Tibetan life in the tiny settlement of Tingri. Look beyond the colourful prayer flags and vast landscapes to see a towering Mt Everest.

Day 13 Bhote Kosi River
Clinging perilously to the sheer mountainside, Zhangmu separates Tibet from Nepal by a cascading river that spans the famous Friendship Bridge.

Days 14-15 Kathmandu
With the two sister cities of Bhaktapur and Lalitpur (Patan) close by, Kathmandu has a wealth of sights to explore, markets to discover and places to relax in.

Join an adventure across the top of the world. From the serene former home of the Dalai Lama in Lhasa to the ancient narrow laneways of Kathmandu, travel across the world's highest mountain range and delve into the heart of Tibetan Buddhism. • Be prepared for some serious physical activity. This may be treks of up to 6 hours per day in steep terrain, or extended bike rides of more than one day. The fitter you are, the more you will enjoy your holiday.

• The comforts of home are more of a rarity. Expect extended stays of multi-share accommodation, limited access to hot water, simple food or days cut off from the rest of the world.
• During 2012, due to government permit rules, there were restrictions on nationalities that could travel on specific departures. This may continue in 2013. Bookings will need to be requested and your sales or Intrepid agent will provide more information. Tibet may also be closed to tourists at any time without warning.
