Days 1-2 Kathmandu
Arrive in Nepal's colourful capital, where the constant stream of traffic includes monks, goats and sacred cows. Explore brightly painted temples, chaotic markets or sit back and drink chai at a rooftop restaurant.

Days 3-7 Lhasa
Board a flight to Lhasa and visit the awe-inspiring Potala Palace. Join Tibetan pilgrims as they prostrate themselves along the holy Barkhor Circuit, and shop for prayer wheels and carpets at a market outside the Jokhang Temple.

Day 8 Gyantse
Located in the green farmland of the Nyang-chu Valley, Gyantse's imposing Dzong, or fortress, dominates the town. Perhaps visit the amazing Kumbum Chorten, decorated with thousands of colourful murals.

Day 9 Shigatse
Home to the best-preserved monastery in Tibet, Shigatse is the seat of the Panchen Lama, who ranks second to the Dalai Lama. Check out the town's ancient bazaar, buzzing with local life.

Day 10 Sakya
With a magnificent monastery exhibiting medieval Mongolian architecture, Sakya is a wonderful place for local interaction. Meet the monks and discover some intriguing Tibetan artwork.

Day 11 Everest National Park
Travel to Rongphu, one of the world's highest monasteries, on an exhilarating drive through the mountains. For the energetic, there is an optional two-hour trekking experience up to Everest Base Camp.

Day 12 Nyalam
Get a feel for Tibetan life in the tiny settlement of Nyalam. Look beyond the colourful prayer flags and vast landscapes to see a towering Mt Everest.

Day 13 Bhote Kosi River
Leaving the Tibetan plateau, head for the cliff-hugging town of Zhangmu. Travel across the border into Nepal and follow the Arniko Highway as it snakes its way above the raging Sun Kosi River.

Days 14-15 Kathmandu
Back in Kathmandu, chill out in a cafe and reminisce about this incredible adventure tour across the high peaks of magical Tibet.

800-680-2858 800-680-2858 Notes
  • Group size: Min 1 , Max 14.
  • Ages: Min 12.
  • No meals included.
  • In order for us to apply for your Tibet entry permit and purchase your flight to Lhasa, you must provide a scanned colour copy of the personal details page of your passport to your booking agent no later than 30 days prior to the start date of your trip.
  • Please be aware that in recent years there have been times when restrictions on nationalities being able to travel on specific departures have been implemented or Tibet has been closed to foreign tourists without warning.
  • The comforts of home are more of a rarity. English isn't common and the food will be quite different to home. It's important to observe some of the local customs to not cause offence. Many of the locals’ standard of living may be confronting. This is a demanding, overland travel trip, which is suitable for the experienced traveller. The affects of altitude, long days of travel in cramped conditions over extremely rough roads, accommodation in shared dormitories that vary in quality from the basic to the very basic and the possibility of severe and sudden climate changes means that this is definitely not a trip for the armchair traveller. Be prepared for no showers for several days, and in the event of a landslide or heavy snow blocking the road you may be required to walk carrying your own luggage for unspecified distances or the itinerary may change.
  • Be prepared for some serious physical activity. The majority of activities included on this trip will be challenging. The fitter you are, the more you'll enjoy your holiday.
  • Please ask your Vacations To Go travel counselor for more information.
