Itinerary
Day 1 Adelaide/ Flinders RangesHead off early from Adelaide and make tracks towards one of South Australia's hidden gems, the Flinders Ranges. Stop for lunch on the way at Alligator Gorge. Be greeted with spectacular views of the nearby mountains and the waters of Spencer Gulf. Travel on through Port Augusta and the picturesque Pichi Richi Pass heading towards Quorn, which is the original start of Central Australia's famous Ghan Railway. Explore the deserted Willochra Plain and view Aboriginal artwork at the Yourambulla Caves. Arrive at Rawnsley Park Station, in the heart of the Flinders Ranges, and enjoy a relaxing evening around the campfire. Day 2 Flinders Ranges/ Wilpena Pound Wake up to the call of kookaburras and the sight of majestic Wilpena Pound. This region is known to the local Aboriginal people as Ikara. Get acquainted with the area on a visit to Bunyeroo and Brachina Gorges. Wallabies, kangaroos, emus and even the wedge-tailed eagles are prolific in the ranges so keep eyes peeled. Perhaps even be lucky enough to see the elusive yellow-footed rock wallabies who live here. Settle down under millions of stars and enjoy dinner with a cold beer or wine at the bush camp. Day 3 Clare Valley/ Adelaide Make tracks to Melrose, the oldest settlement in the area. Drop into Bluey Blundstone's Blacksmith Shop, a building nearly as old as the town itself. Finally, no trip to South Australia is complete without a visit to one of its award-winning wine regions. Pull up in the Clare Valley and enjoy a spot of wine tasting and sample the regions' fine, fresh produce. This region is known for producing excellent Rieslings so be sure to try a glass or two of these! Then, it's time to travel back to Adelaide where this short break wraps up.
