Day 1-2 Berlin
Kick off the journey in Berlin, one of the most happening cities in Germany and home to a vibrant nightlife, edgy arts scene and festivals galore. For a historic perspective, inspect Checkpoint Charlie, pedal through the streets on a cycling tour or see remaining fragments of the Great Wall. Get comfortable on an overnight train to Poland.
Day 3-4 Krakow
Arrive in Krakow and head down to Rynek Glowny for a spot of people-watching or seek out some solace in St Mary’s Church. In free time, maybe pay a visit to Wawel Castle - a superb testament to the country's royal past. Or, for a sombre interlude, take a day trip to Auschwitz to uncover tragic tales from WWII.
Day 5-6 Prague
Head west to the capital of the Czech Republic, Prague. Explore the narrow hallways of the mysterious Prague Castle, visit the resting place of Franz Kafka's in the Jewish Quarter or strike up a conversation with locals at an underground absinthe bar.
Day 7 Cesky Krumlov
Enjoy the cultural environs of Cesky Krumlov, a bohemian town nestled in a bend of the Vltava River. Wander through a confusion of cobbled alleys by day and enjoy the friendly array of restaurants and bars by night.
Day 8-9 Vienna
Travel to Vienna and discover a city with a vibrant artistic soul. Art lovers will relish the abundance of quality museums while for history buffs, the fascinating story of the Habsburg family can be revealed on a visit to two of Austria's most stunning palaces, Hofburg and Schonbrunn. Perhaps enjoy the dulcet tones of operatic performers at a night time theatre show.
Day 10-11 Budapest
Discover how Budapest has experienced something of a renaissance since the Iron Curtain was lifted. Maybe hire a bike and explore the grand boulevards, climb Gellert Hill for spectacular views of the Danube, sample rich Hungarian food or freak out at the House of Terror.
Day 12-13 Bled
Flex the muscles in one of the most popular lakeside cities in Slovenia. Go rafting, cycle to Vintgar Gorge or paddle out to Bled's island church to ring its bell and make a wish.
Day 14-16 Venice
Be romanced by the Bridge of Sighs and the Basilica di San Marco in this city of hidden treasures. In free time, peruse the Guggenheim Museum or perhaps enjoy the quintessential Venice experience – a gondola ride through narrow waterways.
Day 17-18 Cinque Terre
Travel to the Cinque Terre and be revitalised by the fresh sea breeze that drifts in off the Mediterranean. Take in glorious vistas while walking the coastal path, journeying past citrus orchards scattered over steep hillsides overlooking the sea. Explore rustic Italian villages, cool off in the warm coastal waters and be sure to make the most of the fresh local produce.
Day 19-20 Florence
Be captivated by the culture-rich atmosphere of Florence, from family-run vineyards on the outskirts of the city to the Duomo’s magnificent marble facade. View wonders of art in the Medici Chapels and the Uffizi Gallery, see the world’s most famous David in the Galleria dell'Accademia and climb uphill to Piazzale Michelangelo to enjoy a golden sunset across the city's rooftops. In free time, perhaps venture to Pisa, Lucca or Siena on a day trip.
Day 21-22 Rome
Grab a gelato and take to the hectic streets of Rome. Visit the Colosseum, recharge with a slice of pizza and a strong espresso at the Piazza Navona or throw a coin into the Trevi Fountain and make a wish to return to the 'Eternal City'. Before the tour comes to an end, art-lovers should visit the Sistine Chapel to admire the timeless work of Michelangelo, while history buffs will enjoy a jaunt through the ancient halls of the Pantheon.
