Step into a cultural melting pot in the “Jazz Capital of the World” – New Orleans! This soulful city abounds with rich history, mouth-watering Cajun and Creole cuisine, and an incomparable soundtrack. And in December, the city sparkles with the season’s pageantry and rolls out the red (and green) carpet!

Day 2 French Quarter
This morning, we’ll visit the Hermann-Grima house for an old-fashioned Christmas. See the home as it appeared in the 19th century and learn about Creole holiday traditions. Afterwards, come to know the famous French Quarter during a walking tour featuring the majestic St. Louis Cathedral, one of the city’s most recognizable landmarks. Perhaps you’ll hear some carolers in Jackson Square as we make our way past the Pontalba, the oldest apartment building in the French Quarter. These historic structures will be dressed in holiday finery. Next, stop to taste a true New Orleans favorite – beignets at Café Du Monde. Then, explore Pirate’s Alley and the bustling French Marketplace where you can find unique Christmas gifts and see a 30-foot tree topped by a Fleur de Lis! Spend the afternoon strolling around the French Quarter checking out the dazzling hotel lobbies and the antique shops on Royal Street. Tonight, roll up your sleeves and prepare to discover how to cook for the holidays New Orleans-style! During a demonstration at the New Orleans School of Cooking, your chef reveals everything that Louisiana cuisine offers. After dinner, the magic continues at Celebration in the Oaks, a New Orleans tradition, with a train ride that takes you through lit bridges, lagoons and gardens. (B,D)

Day 3 New Orleans
This morning, set out on a locally guided panoramic tour. See the St. Louis Cemetery #3 which opened in 1854 and holds some of the most elaborate crypts found in the city’s cemeteries. Then, relax during a drive along the shoreline of Lake Pontchartrain. This romantic road eventually leads to St. Charles Avenue, whisking you past gorgeous mansions as well as Tulane and Loyola, two world-famous universities. Then, enjoy lunch and a holiday-themed musical revue by the Victory Belles at the National World War II Museum. Afterwards, take a walk through history to learn about the American wartime experience. (B,L)

Day 4 New Orleans
Today we take a drive along New Orleans’ historic Esplanade Avenue. Then, journey through the Louisiana swamp on a cruise* narrated by your colorful captain. Learn about the history and ecology of this fascinating ecosystem while keeping an eye out for wildlife, including bald eagles, herons, turtles and alligators. Return to New Orleans and spend the remainder of the day at leisure to discover this great city your way. Tonight, celebrate the season like a local and toast your travel companions at a traditional reveillon dinner at The Court of Two Sisters in the French Quarter. (B,D)
