Day 2 Lima Free Time & Sightseeing
For guests arriving early this morning, you will be met and transferred to your hotel where rooms are ready for immediate check-in. At lunch time meet your Travel Director and head to Casa Diez Canseco, the private home of the Diez Canseco family. Enjoy a special Welcome Reception and a Be My Guest home-cooked Peruvian lunch before a city tour with a Local Expert. Immerse yourself in the colonial splendor of Lima’s old section including Plaza de Armas. Then see the Church of San Francisco. Later, your evening is free. (B, BG)

Day 3 Lima / Cusco / Sacred Valley
Take a morning flight to Cusco and head into the Sacred Valley. Stop at Awanakancha, where you will see and pet llamas, alpacas and vicunas. Enjoy a picnic box lunch before visiting the Pisac Market. Then travel to your hotel, a former 18th-century monastery in the heart of the Sacred Valley. Learn about Peruvian weaving, a Local Specialty, and watch centuries-old methods of spinning, dyeing and weaving. (CB, L, D)

Day 4 Sacred Valley / Machu Picchu
Start the day with a visit to Ollantaytambo, an ancient Inca stronghold. Then, board the Vistadome train for your journey to Machu Picchu. “The Lost City of the Incas” was built about 1450 and abandoned 100 years later. Upon arrival, take a short ride to the entrance and begin your exploration of this UNESCO World Heritage Site. (B, D)

NOTE: On the train to Machu Picchu, only hand luggage can be taken. Your main suitcase will be stored and returned to you in Cusco.

Day 5 Machu Picchu / Cusco
Return to Machu Picchu for last impressions of the magnificent ruins on your own. Later, travel by train and coach to Cusco. Along the way, stop at a local chicheria and sample chicha, a Local Specialty. Learn why this Peruvian corn beer is made by women only. (B)

Day 6 Cusco Sightseeing & free time
Cusco is a city enveloped in myth and legend. Traces of its Incan and Spanish heritage can still be seen today. View Cusco’s most important landmarks, including the Cathedral on the Plaza de Armas and the Church of Santo Domingo, built atop the foundations of the Inca Temple of the Sun, or Korikancha. Just outside of town, visit the ruins of the fortress of Sacsayhuaman. Later, gather for a Highlight Dinner of local dishes and watch ancestral dances. (B, HD)

Day 7 Cusco / Lima
Fly back to Lima. This afternoon meet a Local Expert, a curator from the Larco Museum, and learn about Ancient Peru societies. Then, gather for a Farewell Dinner in the museum’s garden restaurant. (B, FD)

Day 8 Depart Lima / Arrive on Easter Island
You will be transferred to the airport. Fly to Easter Island, the cradle of an ancient, enigmatic culture that remains to this day. The language, music, and many traditions are still alive among the island’s inhabitants, while the enormous, carved stone statues or moai tell of a more remote past. After checking in at your seaside hotel (check in is at 3 p.m.), spend the rest of the day getting to know the island your way. Take a swim in the pool at the hotel, stroll into town or just relax and enjoy your unique surroundings. (CB)

Day 9 Easter Island Sightseeing
Visit the ceremonial platforms and fallen monolithic moai at Ahu Vaihu, in the bay of Hanga Te’e, and Akahanga, where legend says the famous king Hotu Matua was buried. On to Rano Raraku, a quarry of almost 900 stone moai, 397 of them still standing or lying at the slopes of the extinct volcano with its crater lake. Your next visit is Ahu Tongariki, the most recent and largest restoration project on the island, with 15 huge moai. On to Ahu Te Pito Kura and, finally, Anakena Beach with its restored Ahus Nau Nau and Ature Huke. You might want to take a dip in the warm waters of the Pacific Ocean before returning to your hotel. (B, L)

Day 10 Easter Island Sightseeing
Delve deeper into Easter Island’s singular history and culture today as your expert guide takes you to explore Rano Kau, an extinct volcano with stunning views of the island, and the village of Orongo, the ceremonial center of the mysterious Birdman cult. View the altars, quarry and some of the 480 cave paintings related to this fascinating group. Drive to restored Ahu Akivi, with seven moai, situated in the middle of the island. Your last stop today is the quarry of Puna Pau with its red scoria stone. This is where all the pukaos or topknot hats for the moai were made. (B)

Day 11 Depart Easter Island
Your time is free until you are transferred to the airport, where your vacation adventure comes to an end. (B)
