5 days with Gate 1 Travel   Rating: First Class

Click for Dates and Prices DAY 1, Friday - Depart for Panama
Depart for Panama, a country rich in history and culture, home to many indigenous cultures. Arrive in spirited Panama City, a dynamic city with huge modern skyscrapers, bustling mega-malls, elegant casinos, shops and restaurants on every corner. This evening, meet with your Tour Manager and fellow travelers for a briefing on your journey through Panama.

DAY 2, Saturday - Full Day in Panama City
Spend today discovering Panama City independently. Perhaps participate in the optional not to be missed partial transit of the Panama Canal that will take you on a ship through the Miraflores and Pedro Miguel Locks. This is indeed a unique opportunity to see the remarkable workings of the canal first-hand and learn more about the history and operation of the canal. On the return back into Panama Bay, pass under the Bridge of the Americas. This evening, a Welcome Dinner with your fellow travelers. (Breakfast, Dinner)

Optional: Panama Canal Partial Transit

DAY 3, Sunday - Miraflores Locks, Panama Canal and Panama City Tour
Today, start at Miraflores Locks at the Pacific entrance to the Panama Canal. Here, view the locks in operation and watch in amazement as over 20 million gallons of water are transferred in less than 10 minutes. The Panama Canal is an astonishing example of modern engineering, considered to be one of the "wonders of the world". More than 12,000 ocean-going vessels pass through it a year, over 30 a day! Hopefully, you'll see a freighter passing through the locks today; it will be a once-in-a-lifetime experience. After lunch, continue with a tour of Panama City. View the magnificent Catedral de Panamá, elegantly dominating the Plaza de la Independencia, the National Theater and the bayside monument to French entrepreneurs who envisioned the Panama Canal. Continue to the ever-expanding modern section before enjoying an afternoon at leisure for personal explorations. Perhaps, join the optional tour to Frank Gehry's Biodiversity Museum. First building in Latin America designed by world-renowned architect Frank Gehry, the Biomuseo is located on the Amador Causeway, a prominent area at the entrance to the Panama Canal in the Pacific Ocean. Eight galleries and eight "devices of wonder" tell you about the origin of the Panamanian isthmus and its gigantic impact on the planet's biodiversity. (Breakfast, Lunch)

DAY 4, Monday - Embera Indigenous Village
Begin your Embera adventure with the arrival in the lush rainforest at Chagres National Park, in the eastern sector of the Panama Canal. Here, transfer to a "piragua" (paddle dug-out canoe) that takes you on a journey into the jungle to meet the indigenous Embera tribe known as the "keepers of the rainforest". You’ll be warmly welcomed with cultural dances and music that hasn't changed much since Columbus arrived in the 1500's. Explore the area on a trek through the untouched jungle and past sparkling waterfalls - see the wide variety of colorful birds and wildlife! Watch as the women craft beautiful baskets out of palm leaves and demonstrate their native art. The Embrera Indians will offer you a specially prepared traditional meal before you return back to civilization. The rest of the day is yours for leisure or take an optional afternoon excursion to discover the rich historic background of Panama on the Historic Trail of Panama and Canal. Learn about the United States involvement in the Panama Canal and see various sites that were involved in the military aspect of Panama. Tonight, celebrate your last evening in Panama with a "night on the town." (Breakfast, Lunch)

Optional: The Bridge of Life: Biomuseo Tour
