Many Botswana tours feature Chobe National Park, known for one of the greatest concentrations of game on the African continent. Its elephant population is estimated at 60,000. Keep an eye out for crocodiles and hippos on a sunset cruise of the Chobe River, included on some itineraries.
Also popular is the Central Kalahari Game Reserve, a 20,773-square-mile game sanctuary that is home to wildlife such as giraffes, cheetahs, leopards, lions and elands. Watch a glorious sunset over the remote Makgadikgadi salt pans, where you might spot herds of antelope, zebra and wildebeest. Some safaris explore the Okavanga Delta, the world's largest inland river delta. It provides excellent opportunities for game viewing, bird-watching and fishing. It's home to the Moremi Game Reserve, where leopards, cheetahs, African wild dogs, spotted hyenas and a large resident pride of lions live.
