Every August, Scotland welcomes guests to the Royal Edinburgh Military Tattoo, a spectacular kaleidoscope of music, dance and entertainment held at beautiful Edinburgh Castle. Part of the wider Edinburgh Festival, a series of art and cultural celebrations held throughout the summer, the Military Tattoo began in 1950 and now attracts more than 200,000 visitors annually. Each evening, the castle esplanade comes alive with colorful performances by Scottish pipe and drum bands, highland dancers and international performers, as well as British military regiments reenacting historic battles. The show closes with an explosive fireworks show and the audience singing "Auld Lang Syne" together.
Meet travelers from all over the world and join in the camaraderie of this festive fête. Itineraries that include the Royal Edinburgh Military Tattoo often visit other cities in Scotland and the rest of the British Isles.
