Enjoy a walk through Buda, the western part of the Hungarian capital Budapest. Located on the west bank of the Danube River, Buda makes up a third of Budapest’s total territory. As you walk through the city, you’ll see iconic landmarks like:
  • Buda Castle: The Royal Palace which has been destroyed and rebuilt at least a half-dozen times.
  • Matthias Church: The Roman Catholic church at the heart of Buda’s Castle District, which has been serving the citizens of Buda Castle Hill since 1015 AD. You may opt to climb to the terrace of the bell and lookout tower for spectacular views of Buda.
  • Fisherman’s Bastion: A neo-Gothic and new-Romanesque terrace located on the bank of the Danube, on Castle Hill.
  • Budapest Castle Hill Funicular: Ride this railway that links the upper Adam Clark Square and the Széchenyi Chain Bridge at river level to Buda Castle high above.
Lunch at Pest-Buda Bistro
One of Hungary’s oldest restaurants, Pest-Buda Bistro is a classic baroque structure which was originally built as inn dating back to 1800. The menu offers grandma’s home-style meals rich in traditional Hungarian flavors.

Exploration of Pest Tuk Tuk Tour
Hob aboard a motorized auto rickshaw, known as a tuk tuk, for a memorable tour of Pest, the eastern and flatter part of the Hungarian capital that is located on the east bank of the Danube River. On this tour, you’ll see some of Pest’s iconic sites which include:
  • St. Stephen’s Basilica: A Roman Catholic basilica named after Stephen, the first King of Hungary, whose mummified right hand—Hungary’s most sacred treasure—is housed in the reliquary.
  • Vajdahunyad Castle: Located in the City Park, this castle was built in 1896 as part of the Millennial Exhibition in celebration of Hungary’s 1,000th year after the Hungarian Conquest of the Carpathian Basin.
  • Hero’s Square: One of Budapest’s major squares, it is known for its iconic statue complex that features the Seven Chieftains of the Magyars, in addition to several other important Hungarian national leaders. The square is also home to Hungary’s Tomb of the Unknown Soldier.
  • Shoes on the Danube Bank: Located on the Danube’s east bank, this memorial was created by film director Can Togay and sculpted by Gyula Pauer in honor of the people killed by fascist militiamen in Budapest during World War II.

Rich in neo-Renaissance style, the symmetrical façade follows a musical theme and features the statues of 16 composers, including Franz Liszt, the best known Hungarian composer, as well as Ferenc Erkel, who composed the Hungarian national anthem and served as the Opera House’s first musical director. Currently, the Opera House is home to the Hungarian National Ballet, Opera and Philharmonic orchestra.

Plus, you will be treated to a mini performance where you’ll be able to hear the amazing acoustics the opera house is known for.
