Mongolia

Mongolia boasts regions of seemingly endless, unhinged wilderness along with small towns and cities that are sprinkled throughout the land. While the country appears in some itineraries as a stopping point for journeys traveling between Russia and China, we also offer trips that focus specifically on Mongolia.

The capital city, Ulaanbaatar, is the starting point for most Mongolian adventures and is where the majority of the country's population lives. Wander museums, monasteries and palaces to learn about the city's turbulent history. The Winter Palace of Bogd Khan was home to Mongolia's last emperor.

Outside of Ulaanbaatar, the country is sparsely populated. The massive Gobi desert, where you might hike sand dunes or meet a camel herding family, covers most of southern Mongolia. Visit a nomadic ger camp in Gorkhi-Terelj National Park or spot wild horses in Khustai National Park.
