North Pole Dogsled & Ski Two-Degree Expedition
19 days with PolarExplorers Rating:
Day 1: Longyearbyen, Norway
Your PolarExplorers guide will set up a time to check your personal kit mid-day. Our expedition officially kicks off with our evening welcome reception followed by a group dinner.
Day 2: Longyearbyen, Norway
Day 3: Longyearbyen, Norway - Barneo Ice Camp
Days 4-17: Dogsled and ski to the North Pole!
On a personal level, the extreme conditions of the Polar environment demand that each person is well organized and able to maintain both an appropriate body temperature and adequate reserves of energy. This is where all of your physical training, mental preparation, and time spent acquiring the best clothing and equipment will pay off. Your participation in our Polar Shakedown Training will help you tremendously as you learn what to expect and how to deal with the adverse conditions. Once you are on the ice & in the extreme cold everything becomes much more difficult!
The One Degree dogsled expedition will meet up with the Two Degree expedition at or near 89 degrees. The One Degree team will bring vitally fresh energy and supplies (including dog food!) that will help to ensure a successful expedition. From this day on both expeditions will travel together negotiating the remaining miles to the North Pole.
The North Pole: Upon reaching the North Pole, our extended celebration begins. Standing at the top of the world, where everything on Earth lies south of your location we will celebrate our accomplishment. Don’t forget your banners, flags and signs for our photo session. You’ll also have the opportunity to call home to a family member or friend. Weather depending, we will either spend the night at the North Pole or get picked up that same day before returning to Barneo and then onto Longyearbyen.
Day 18: Longyearbyen, Norway
Day 19: Longyearbyen, Norway
All This Included
What makes this expedition the ultimate adventure? It starts with the dozen plus Greenland huskies who will impress and inspire you with each passing mile. Add the beauty and unpredictability of the shifting pack ice, the sub zero temperatures and cap it off with standing at the top of the world - the Geographic North Pole. This expedition is often rigorous and difficult. The dogsledding can be “graduate level” and the skiing demands excellent balance and cardiovascular endurance. A positive attitude, supportive team spirit and some good old fashioned tenacity will serve you well. At any moment you may find yourself feeling exhilarated and accomplished or tired and frustrated by difficult ice. It’s all in a day’s work on this classic expedition.
