DAY 1, Thursday - Depart for Norway
Depart for Norway

DAY 2, Friday - Arrive in Oslo
Arrive in Oslo, the capital of Norway. Balance of the day is at leisure. This evening, your tour begins at 6:00 PM when you join your Tour Manager for a Welcome Drink and orientation meeting, followed by a Welcome Dinner at your hotel. We recommend that you select flights which arrive in Oslo no later than 4:00 PM on day 2 of the itinerary, or earlier if possible. (Dinner)

DAY 3, Saturday - Oslo City Tour
Begin your day with a city tour of Oslo. Pass the National Theater, the 19th century Royal Palace and visit the main square to view the Cathedral. Next, visit the Vigeland Sculpture Park, designed by Gustav Vigeland; the park contains 192 sculptures with more than 600 figures. The park's most popular attraction is the Monolith column, measuring 46 feet high with 121 human figure reliefs. It is carved from a single block of granite and took three stone sculptors 14 years (1929-43) to complete. Continue to the modern City Hall to conclude the city tour.* The balance of the morning and early afternoon is at leisure or, join the optional Treasures of Oslo tour. Admire the highlights of Norway's great seafaring tradition as you enjoy a guided visit to see three 1,200-year-old ornamented Viking ships which are the best preserved in existence. (Breakfast)

*In the event that the Oslo City Hall is closed due to local events, a visit to the Oslo Cathedral will be offered instead

Optional: Treasures of Oslo (PM)

DAY 4, Sunday - Travel to Lillehammer
This morning, travel to Lillehammer. Situated at the northern end of Lake Mjøsa, the town is perhaps most famous for hosting the 1994 Winter Olympic Games. Take an orientation tour, which includes a view of the ski jump. Tonight, enjoy dinner at your hotel. (Breakfast, Dinner)

DAY 5, Monday - Lom Stave Church, Travel to Sogndal
This morning drive to the village of Lom where you will visit one of the largest and best preserved stave churches in Norway.* Built around 1150, the church's unique facade appears to have been plucked from a medieval fairytale. Next, drive via Sognefjellet (weather permitting), the highest mountain pass in Northern Europe known as the "roof of Norway", through the dramatic Norwegian countryside. Pass glaciers, pine forests and perhaps reindeer, as well as Galdhøpiggen, Norway's highest mountain in the Jotunheimen National Park. Overnight is in the heart of the Fjords. (Breakfast, Dinner)

*Entry to Lom Stave Church interior is only available when church services are not in session.

DAY 6, Tuesday - Sognefjord Cruise, Flam Railway, Travel to Bergen
Today, take a leisurely cruise on the breathtaking still waters of the Sognefjord, the longest and deepest of all the Norwegian Fjords. Then, enjoy a real highlight as you board the world-famous Flam Railway for a mountain train ride into Norway's high glacial regions. View pastures, waterfalls and snow-clad peaks, all nestled beautifully into the surrounding mountainside. Ascend to 3,000 feet within 12 miles for one of the most scenic views of Norway. Continue to your hotel in Bergen, Norway’s second-largest city. A major distributor of the wealthy trading guilds of the Hanseatic League, many residents of this 11th-century city still earn their livelihood from the sea. (Breakfast)

DAY 7, Wednesday - Bryggen Walking Tour, Farewell Dinner
This morning, join your tour manager for a short walking tour through picturesque Bryggen, the old Hanseatic wharf and series of colorful commercial buildings, dating back to the Middle Ages. Lining the east side of the Bergen harbor, Bryggen has been a UNESCO World Heritage Site since 1979, and is now home to quaint shops, museums and restaurants. Spend the rest of your day at leisure to explore Bergen, an important cultural hub located in the middle of the region known as De syv fjell, or the Seven Mountains. The city served as an old trading port and has maintained a bustling harbor since the 11th century as part of the Hanseatic League. Perhaps join the optional tour to Troldhaugen where you'll visit the home of the famous composer Edvard Grieg for an afternoon concert and tour of the grounds. Tonight, join your Tour Manager and fellow travelers for a Farewell Dinner at your hotel. (Breakfast, Dinner)

Optional: Grieg's Troldhaugen: An Afternoon Concert & Tour

DAY 8, Thursday - Depart Norway
