3 days with SITA World Tours Rating:
Day 1 – Arrive Puerto Maldonado
Upon your arrival at Puerto Maldonado Airport, you will arrive to the Butterfly House and then reach the pier just 15 minutes away. Experience the charm of the forest sailing 45 minutes along the Madre de Dios River to the hotel. After a brief presentation, enjoy a nice lunch with local ingredients. Take a nap, drink a refreshing tea and get ready for the afternoon excursion. After meeting with your guide, choose from the many excursions available. You can enter the jungle through a guided walk along the trail system in the natural area of the hostel, where you will discover the Amazon Basin. This tour provides an excellent introduction to the rainforest environment, passing by impressive trees such as the Shihuahuaco and the strangely beautiful strangler fig, offering excellent opportunities to observe birds and exotic insects. At nightfall, do the River by Night Tour: a guided boat ride by the afternoon sailing through the Madre de Dios River. Witness the transformation from a diurnal to a nocturnal world: birds and other daytime animals give way to species specially adapted to the night. While enjoying the nature around you, watch for the appearance of nightjars, owls, capybaras and up to three different species of alligators. Then you can enjoy dinner served in the main dining room. After dinner, you can choose to go to your cabin, or join a nice talk about the experience of life in the Amazon while listening to the intriguing sounds of the jungle at night. (LD)

Then you will return to the lodge for lunch. After lunch, you can visit the Inkaterra Canopy and the Anaconda Walk. When you reach the first tower, 29 meters above the forest floor, begins your encounter with the species that inhabit the treetops. You will literally walk through the rainforest for more than a quarter mile in a suspended bridge network linking eight observation platforms, where you will see colorful toucans, woodpeckers, trogons, monkeys, sloths, among other species. If you wish, you can extend your tour to appreciate the sunset in one of the towers. After descending the Canopy, go through the Anaconda Walk for about 30 minutes along the 200 meters of wooden bridges over the Aguajales Swamps. In this lush ecosystem, recognize different species of amphibians, birds, mammals and wild flora. There is also the possibility of seeing snakes on these wetlands. The walk finishes by returning to the lodge to enjoy a presentation about nature in the Eco Center. Then dinner will be served. (BLD)
