Click for Dates and Prices Day 1 Arrive San José
Welcome to San José where your journey begins with a warm greeting from a local host at the airport and a transfer to your hotel. At 6 p.m., gather at the hotel with your Travel Director and travelling companions for a Welcome Reception.

Day 2 San José – Braulio Carrillo National Park – Tortuguero National Park (2 Nights)
Journey to San Isidro de Heredia, where we’ll 'Dive into Culture' with master chocolatiers, Julio Fernandez and George Soriano, to learn about the history of chocolate and how it is produced at this small workshop. Then, it’s on to Siquirres where we’ll embark on a river journey through protected wetlands to secluded Tortuguero. Immerse yourself in its vibrant Afro-Caribbean atmosphere as you stroll through the village streets. We enjoy dinner at our hotel this evening accompanied by the enchanting sounds of resident cicadas and tree frogs. (Full Breakfast, Lunch)

Day 3 Tortuguero National Park Sightseeing
Glide through the canals and waterways of the park today as howler monkeys watch from the treetops, toucans and egrets fly through the air, and crocodiles ply the cool waters. If you're here in July, take an optional trip to see the sea turtles laying eggs on the beach. (Full Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner)

Day 4 Tortuguero – Sarapiquí
Bid adiós to Tortuguero and head back to the mainland where we’ll enjoy lunch before meeting the Tico family for a 'Dive into Culture' experience at their palm plantation. There you'll learn about and sample the delicate heart of palm. Tonight you'll enjoy a 'Be My Guest' with the owners of your hotel, providing a 'Connect with Locals' experience, as they prepare a special BBQ meal just for you. (Full Breakfast, Be My Guest Dining)

Day 5 Sarapiquí – Arenal
Rise with the sun to get up close and personal with Costa Rica's exquisite nature during a leisurely hike. Keep a look out for the endangered great green macaw and connect with your beautiful surroundings. Embark on an optional rafting trip^ later this morning. We 'Connect with Locals' this afternoon, enjoying a 'Be My Guest' lunch at an eco-friendly hacienda built by the Quintana family as a retirement project. Today, it is home to an organic farm and related eco-adventures. 'Make a Difference' and learn how your visit contributes to the local community. Our journey continues to Arenal Volcano, on whose slopes we spend the afternoon relaxing in our resort's beautifully landscaped thermal pools. (Full Breakfast, Be My Guest Dining)

Day 6 Arenal – Monteverde Cloud Forest (2 Nights)
Enjoy a free morning before heading to the Monteverde Cloud Forest, straddling the Continental Divide, home to luxuriant vegetation, abundant wildlife, coffee plantations and spectacular views. Tonight, you'll meet a native Quaker, and Local Specialist, who will share stories of Old Town Monteverde (Full Breakfast, Dinner)

Day 7 Monteverde Cloud Forest Sightseeing
Join your guide for an excursion through the Monteverde Cloud Forest Reserve. Covering 26,000 acres of tropical rainforest, the Reserve consists of 6 ecological zones and offers extremely high biodiversity. Later, ascend to the treetops for a bird's-eye view of the forest on the unforgettable Sky Walk, a chain of 6 suspension bridges at canopy level. Tonight, trade stories of your experiences at a Farewell Dinner. (Full Breakfast)

Day 8 Monteverde – Depart San José
Bid farewell to Monteverde and transfer to San José International Airport. (Full Breakfast)

Notes
  • Complimentary Arrival and Departure Transfers are available for guests who have provided Trafalgar with their flight details prior to final payment. 
  • Visitors pay a departure tax of US$29 (subject to change) in cash or credit card at the airport when departing Costa Rica. Some airlines are adding the departure tax into the cost of the ticket. Please check with your airline if this fee has been included.
  • A valid passport with at least six months validity after your return date from Costa Rica is required to enter the country.
  • For the 2-night excursion to Tortuguero National Park, guests are permitted to bring a maximum of 25 lbs. (11 kilos) of luggage. Your primary suitcase will be transferred and securely stored at your Sarapiqui hotel.
  • Airport arrival on the last day of your guided vacation will be at 11:30am for either San Jose or Liberia, please be aware when booking your flights.
  • International Inbound and Outbound flight information is due at the time of final payment in order to qualify for airport transfers.
